School of Music

The School of Music runs for pupils from S2 onwards. It aims to develop specialist skills in music as well as a range of transferable skills for learning and life through engagement and participation in a variety of music activities.

Pupils are selected on their musicianship as well as a range of other criteria and their place on the School of Music programme depends on school attendance, academic improvement and regular attendance at any relevant music ensemble (e.g. wind band, guitar group). They will attend two ‘School of Music’ periods each week, in addition to their normal timetabled music classes.

The course will cover the following:

  • Individual instrument skills - leading to a Trinity or ABRSM Graded Performance exam
  • Ensemble and group performing skills
  • Keyboard skills
  • Music theory and literacy skills (reading, writing and understanding notation) - including ABRSM Graded theory exams
  • Composition skills
