Fashion & Textile Technology

Fashion and Textile Technology is offered as a discrete course from S3 in the Art and Design department. Pupils can choose to take Art and Design and/or Fashion and Textile Technology..


S3

This is a practical course and it aims to provide the development of techniques and skills required for textile production, retail and the fashion industry. The aims of the course are to enable learners to develop:

  • A range of practical skills and textile construction techniques to plan and make fashion/textile items.
  • Knowledge and understanding of textile properties and characteristics
  • The ability to set up, adjust and use relevant tools and equipment safely.
  • Investigation and evaluation skills.
  • Fashion Illustration


Senior Phase 

We offer National 5 and Higher Fashion and Textile Technology. Learning is developed through practical experience

  • Course content will develop knowledge and understanding of the textile industry, textile design, the fashion industry and manufacturing process.
  • Respond to design briefs with detailed assignments and research undertaken
  • Understanding a range of factors that influence fashion and textile choices.
  • Cover health, safety and the law in relation to the textile industry

The course is broken down into three components: practical activity (30-35%), assignment (30-35%) and a question paper (30%-35%). Percentages vary depending on the level of the course.
