Leadership Award (SCQF level 6)

Description of Course: 

• The Leadership Award aims to encourage learners to respect the cultures and beliefs of others through working cooperatively with them and through valuing their contribution. The Award encourages learners to develop knowledge of leadership styles, skills and qualities and to understand the impact a leader can have on others and on the success of an activity.

Skills and Qualities Developed:

• Build the confidence, help learners to develop the leadership skills and values necessary for working cooperatively with others, enhancing the self esteem and self awareness of learners in relation to the contribution they can make to society.

 

Barista Skills (SCQF level 5)

Description of Course: 

• This course is designed to enable learners to develop basic knowledge, understanding and technical skills required for the role of a barista. The course covers how to operate specialist equipment to prepare and serve coffee and a variety of other drinks.

Skills and Qualities Developed:

•  Demonstrate knowledge of coffee and other beverages served by a barista. Prepare and serve a range of coffees and other hot beverages using specialist equipment. Prepare and serve a range of cold beverages using specialist equipment.

 

Travel and Tourism (National 5)

Description of Course: 

This course will build on the initial skills required for the travel and tourism industry. The course will enable learners to experience, develop and reflect on general and specific practical skills, knowledge and understanding, together with employability skills and attitudes needed to work in the travel and tourism industry.

Hairdressing  (SCQF level 5)

Units: 

• Hairdressing: Working in a Salon Environment (National 5)
• Hairdressing: Salon Skills (National 5)

• Hairdressing: An Introduction to Colour (National 5)
• Hairdressing: Introduction to Colouring Processes (National 5)

Description of Course: 

• In this course, and its component units, there will be an emphasis on skills development and the application of those skills. Assessment approaches will be proportionate, fit for purpose and will promote best practice, enabling learners to achieve the highest standards they can.

• Communication, Numeracy, Information & Communication Technology (ICT), Problem Solving and Working with Others.

 

Early Learning & Childcare (National 5)

This qualification will form an important part of the national provision, both for those who have identified the field of Early Learning & Childcare as their chosen career path and also for any students following a programme of study at Higher level who may wish to extend their educational experience in further education. The course is completed over one year and covers 4 key units: Working in Early Learning and Childcare, Development and Wellbeing of Children and Young people, Play in Early Learning & Childcare and Care and Feeding of Children and Young people. This course will prepare our students for entry to further qualifications such as the HNC in Early Education and Childcare or for employment within the sector. Students will also have opportunities to engage in outdoor learning and experience the true reality of caring for a baby over 24 hours! This course is enjoyable, eye-opening and a great stepping stone for the future.

 

Uniformed & Emergency Services (National 4)

This course introduces learners to the uniformed and emergency services: the Army, Navy, Royal Air Force, Royal Navy and Royal Marines; and the Ambulance Service, Coastguard, Fire and Rescue and Police. The Course includes investigating the different uniformed and emergency services, and the roles and responsibilities of those working in a specific service team. 

Central to the course is developing the employability skills that are valued by employers. These skills are embedded in all four Units. Candidates will have the opportunity to develop their employability skills through practical activities in real or simulated working environments, investigations and team-working activities.

Health, safety, fitness and wellbeing are important aspects when working in the uniformed and emergency services, and candidates will explore these aspects and participate in physical fitness practical activities

Effective team-working is an essential element of working in uniformed and emergency services settings. Candidates will investigate the benefits of team-working, and the qualities of effective leadership and followership will be explored.
